Lenovo has introduced its latest innovation in the form of the Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock 7500, designed to support up to three 8K displays alongside a 4K display. Priced at $549.99, this dock is part of a new lineup revealed at IFA 2025, which includes two other models, the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock Gen 2 7500 and the ThinkPad USB4 Smart Dock 5500, set to hit the market in the third quarter of 2025 at more affordable prices.
The standout features of Lenovo’s Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock 7500 are its robust display support and cloud-based management tools. With dual DisplayPort 2.1, an HDMI 2.1 port, and dual downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports, this dock can handle three 8K displays at 60Hz each, along with a 4K display at the same refresh rate. In the absence of 8K displays, it can accommodate dual 4K displays at 240Hz or two 4K displays at 120Hz simultaneously, showcasing its versatility and power.
Compared to its predecessors, the Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock 7500 offers enhanced remote management capabilities, catering to the needs of professionals and enterprise users. Equipped with a 2.5Gbps Ethernet port compatible with Wake-On-Lan (WOL), PXE Boot, and MAC Address Passthrough for ThinkPad laptops, this dock provides seamless integration and efficient operation.
In terms of charging capabilities, the Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock 7500 delivers up to 180W of power, supporting various devices through USB-A ports with 12W, USB-C ports with 15W, and downstream Thunderbolt 5 ports also delivering 15W. The inclusion of a removable Thunderbolt 5 host cable and mounting slots underneath the dock enhances usability and keeps the workspace organized.
Lenovo’s Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock Gen 2 7500 serves as a suitable alternative for users not yet ready to transition to Thunderbolt 5 technology. This model, priced at $379.99, supports one 8K display at 60Hz or multiple 4K displays at lower refresh rates. It offers 100W power delivery and convenient USB ports for charging, making it a practical choice for diverse user needs.
For those utilizing USB4 technology, Lenovo presents the ThinkPad USB4 Smart Dock 5500, priced at $269.99. This model offers similar display support and power delivery capabilities as the Thunderbolt 4 variant, making it a cost-effective solution for users working with USB4-equipped devices.
All three docks are compatible with Accessories Fleet Manager, enabling real-time monitoring and management by IT teams.
